You have likely spent a lot of time (or spent money for someone else’s time) to create your beautiful email marketing template. Have you thought about what it might look like or say if the images didn’t appear? Is your call to action a part of your images or stand alone text?
From an article by the email experience council -
- Images are “ON” by default in: AIM.com, AOL.com, Cox, Comcast, Earthlink, Outlook 2002, Roadrunner, Lotus Notes, Yahoo’s inbox folder.
- Images are “OFF” by default in: AOL 9, Gmail, Hotmail, Mozilla Thunderbird, Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, Outlook Express 6, Windows Live Mail
Between gmail, hotmail and Outlook 03 and 07 – that’s a pretty large chunk of the email marketplace that default to no images. If your images don’t show does your message still come across?
This isn’t meant to scare you away from using images in your templates as many people like to view the images and turn them on, but next time you develop your campaign, think about what it says if there were no images.
